Goblin Valley Day Trip

Oh what fun we had! It was very windy, sunny, blustery day!

My sweet husband and I decided it was time for a trip but we really didn't have the time or money to do an overnight trip so we decided on a day trip to Goblin Valley.

We haven't been on a trip together for a while and we LEARNED A LOT.

Princess Saru threw-up in the first 10 minutes of the ride. Don't worry she just got car sick. We learned that we can't let her read in the car until after she's had her Dramamine.
Thank goodness I brought extra clothes for the kids!
But then she dumped her water bottle out in her lap until it was empty.
We learned not to give her a full bottle of water and to bring yet another set of clothes. . . just in case.
We also learned that checking wind conditions is very important.

We also leaned to bring extra batteries for the camera would be a good idea.

(In my defense I did have extra batteries on my list and I forgot to get them in your rush to get out the door).

Goblin Valley is just so neat and it's just about the funnest place to take pictures!!! Every shot if fun and as long as you don't have shadow cutting across someone’s face every photo is pretty good!!

At First TMK was a little scared of climbing but he soon overcame all his fears and transformed into a mountain goat.

Princess Saru was a little worried that we were in "Goblin" valley and decided she needed an imaginary sword (all her own idea) to not be frightened. This seemed to work and she charged a head.

TMK's dad became Sheik Steve, ruler of this nomadic goblin tribe.

Actually he is wearing Princess Saru's jackett hoping the wind and sun will dry it out because in got very wet from the whole dumping water on it bit earlier.

It was such a gorgeous day, blue skies and fluffy clouds and not too cold if you had a light jacket on. I really want to do this every year!

We also thought that flying kites at Goblin Valley would be a blast and next time we go we will probably take a couple kites just in case.

Because of the wind we had sand everywhere, in our hair and in our ears. When we got back to the car we all got a wipe and wiped the sand off.

I remember why my dad loves the taking pictures of Southern Utah so much and why my uncle loves to paint it. It is all so very visually dramatic.

The Drive home was long and lovely. We even saw some baby cows (look at the last picture).

We took the scenic route home. We saw so many amazing colored land formations. Layers of rock and earth in golden yellows, reds, black, gray, and white, tones layered one on top of another and eroding downward mixing the colors and making the landscape more dramatic.

The kids slept most of the way home and woke up when it started snowing.

It was good we chose the scenic route because the way we came through Spanish Fork Canyon would have been treacherous with the blizzard

Yes a blizzard!

After the hot and cozy ride to Goblin Valley our way home we got a lot of snow just 100 miles from our house. Steve did a great job driving though and we made it home safe and sound.

We had the monkeys take a quick
shower and then popped them into bed where they fell fast asleep.

It had been a long and eventful day full of adventure!!
